"Overcome the fear of posting on social media today. Learn simple strategies to create, share, and grow your online presence with confidence."
If you're anything like me, you've probably been in this situation. You see a random content creator making a post about something you have immense wealth of knowledge in. You sit there thinking, "hey wait, I can do that!" and you start thinking of ideas. You write down all those ideas, start making images for your post, and realize it's just not perfect. You delete what you wrote and write it again. You still don't think it's good enough. You continue this over and over and over until you don't post anything at all. It's just not good enough.
Now you have a social media account that is collecting cobwebs not because of a lack of ideas, but because you just don't feel like its worth any value.
“Find your voice, shout it from the rooftops, and keep doing it until the people that are looking for you find you.” — Dan Harmon
Why Does Posting Feel So Difficult When It's Not?
Take a second to think about it. The process is not difficult.
You think of an idea
You create a Post
You Press a Button
Let's face it. That's the whole process. You don't need a certification, you don't need years of practice. All you have to do is get over that feeling of being that human that is being seen trying. That feeling is worse than the actual criticism that you will get. The honest truth is that no one will see your posts when you start. So you need to get rid of that fear entirely.
You Have One Goal Right Now: Create A Post
Stop reading this article right now and post right now. It can be a letter, a word, a phrase. We will do it with you right now.
Spongebob would have a hard time posting on social media
You don't need to post anything special. You don't need to strategize your posts.
You. Just. Need. To. Post
It genuinely does not matter what your first post is. It probably won't matter what your 100th post is. Your job is to remember that you exist and you can write something, press a button, and survive.
That's your assignment for week one.
Too many people are skipping this process entirely. Jumping head first into a polished, strategic, on-brand first post without realizing that they might have anxiety posting. Post something small and imperfect first. Social media is awkward, let it be awkward. Look at your favorite creator's profile. Watch the last video they created, now watch the first video they ever created (if they have it still uploaded). You'll see an immense difference between them.
Nobody starts off being good.
Once You're Consistent We Can Think About Strategy
Now that you're getting into that consistency flow, the next natural thing will be to move to every single platform right?
Well not that fast...
Unless content creation is your full time job, it will genuinely be impossible to master every single platform. Every platform has their own rhythm and audience behavior. You'll need to learn how to use them and it just takes time.
Pick two to three platforms that you feel like makes sense for the kind of content you actually want to make and go deep there learning everything.
There is absolutely no harm in cross-posting to different platforms. That should be done. But what matters is where you're actually spending your attention: learning what performs well, replying to comments, and understanding the different spaces within the platform.
Find People Making Content Like the Content You Want to Make
Take a look at the individuals that are in the space that you enjoy. Start noticing specific choices that they make: what type of personalities do they have? Do they show their face or stay behind the camera? Do they post frequently or not?
social media is better together
Think about how others would post, that way you aren't always starting at zero when creating content. Understand what is possible in your niche, but make sure not to copy others.
Explore Different Content Styles That Aren't in Your Niche
Beginners will always default to whatever they see most of, without realizing it. This is absolutely okay, but its worth your while to experiment with different types of content as well. You'll likely blend a combination of your styles together to find a fit that is far better than others.
Documentary / Behind-The-Scenes Content Creation
No performance required, this is an unfiltered look at your messy desk, the task you are currently doing. It doesn't have to be clean and it's a great starting point if you feel like being on camera feels exhausting.
While people love a success story, they can relate more with someone who's imperfect and unglamorous.
Educational / How-To
Become a teacher in the niche you want. Being able to break something down piece by piece is an invaluable skill that shouldn't be underestimated. This is a fantastic style that suits people who love explaining things and receive the same questions repeatedly in real life. That's a sign that you have the content that people want to watch, but you just haven't recorded it yet.
Comedy and Entertainment
This one can be tough if you don't have a personality, but if you can make it memorable enough people will remember you! It doesn't always have to be connected to your business.
Eventually You'll Find a Signature
Somewhere down the line a pattern will emerge that people will expect from you. It will be a specific way you open your posts, a tone that's recognizably yours, a format people expect from you.
That is your signature.
It's not something you design upfront, but it'll surface after enough repetition. Trying to create your signature before you've made anything is backwards. Let it come naturally, so it'll be yours.

A Bad Post Is Better Than No Posts
Now here's the real truth: every single day that you sit there thinking about making content instead of just making content and posting is another day that your brain and the algorithm will work against you.
The algorithm does not see that you are active. Your brain is also growing that fear.
Nobody will remember your first post, and no one will ever know about you if you never start.
So today, or this week, write down something simple and hit post. Now do it again tomorrow and the day after that. find your rhythm, find your voice. Everything else in this article is only useful after that.
